Power of Attorney
A Power of Attorney is a grant of authority that permits another person to make financial decisions on your behalf. If for example you are unable to pay the electricity bill because you are away or in hospital or lack mobility, you can grant authority to another person to pay the bill on your behalf. Depending on your circumstances you may need an enduring Power of Attorney.
Enduring Guardianship
For elder members of the community, it also is important that a “trusted” friend or relative hold an Enduring Guardianship. This will permit that person to make decisions about your health and welfare but only when you are unable to do so for yourself. It should be noted that a Power of Attorney does not provide the authority to make these decisions.
